About Big Shot Basketball

The purpose of Big Shot Basketball Camps is to provide a place where young basketball players learn to develop their skills. Basketball, like any other sport, has become more competitive than ever.  In order to be successful, you must learn the fundamentals of the game.  Our camps and skills training will give you an opportunity to learn skills that will make you a better player. 

Big Shot Basketball and Murphy AC AAU is run out of Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills OH, conveniently located in Northeast Ohio to serve the Greater Cleveland and Akron community. With one of the nicest High School competition gyms, an attached fieldhouse with three full size courts and a full size auxiliary gym on campus, our facilities are second to none.

Our staff includes the very best high school coaches in the area.  These coaches will concentrate on teaching you the fundamentals to make you a winner!

Meet the Big Shot Basketball Staff

SEAN O’TOOLE

Sean O’Toole is the athletic director at Gilmour Academy and director of the Big Shot Basketball Academy. Coach O’Toole has won over 200 games as a head coach at Saint Ignatius, Euclid, and Garfield Heights. O’Toole played on the Saint Ignatius varsity basketball team before continuing his academic and playing career with the John Carroll Blue Streaks. Coach O’Toole would later spend time as a graduate assistant under long time Blue Streaks Head Coach Mike Moran. He has worked for many summers as a skills instructor for Nike Basketball, the LeBron James Skills Academy, Michael Jordan Top Flight School, and the Nike Hoop Jamboree.

O’Toole is the President of the Greater Cleveland Basketball Coaches Association and serves as the District II representative to the OHSBCA. He has four kids and is happily married to his wife, Laura.

ANDY SUTTELL

Andy Suttell was most recently the head coach at Cleveland Heights High School.  Suttell led the Tigers to a 54-37 record in four seasons at the helm of one of Northeast Ohio’s most tradition rich programs.  In all, he has spent over a decade coaching high school basketball as an assistant and head coach.

Coach Suttell was a Hall of Fame player at West Geauga High School and a graduate of John Carroll University. Suttell is the all-time leading scorer at West Geauga, and was on the Wolverines’ 1988 State Runner-up team.

DAVID PFUNDSTEIN

Coach Pfundstein spent 20 years (1998-2018) at the helm of the varsity boys basketball team at Gilmour Academy after a brief stint as a varsity assistant at Mayfield High School. He also served as an assistant coach on the men’s basketball staff at John Carroll University.

Pfundstein is a graduate of John Carroll University. He was a three-year starter and two-year team captain on the men’s basketball team from 1994-97. He set the program’s season and all-time assist records during his career at JCU. Such achievements led to his induction into the University’s Hall of Fame in 2009.

Currently, Pfundstein serves as the Dean of Student Life at Gilmour after receiving his Master’s degree in school counseling.

Tyler Hammond

Tyler is the current Girls Varsity Head Coach at Gilmour Academy and previously served as the youth coordinator for the Memphis Grizzlies for three years before returning home to Cleveland.

A former graduate assistant at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan, Hammond’s individual skill instruction and enthusiasm is unmatched. The former All-Ohio Athletic Conference player was the starting point guard for two OAC Championship teams and played in two DIII NCAA Tournaments. He played in 92 collegiate games, scoring 971 points (10.6 ppg) while dishing 294 assists (3.2 apg).  Hammond began as a Big Shot Basketball instructor in high school at St. Ignatius and has been with big shot ever since.

Darrell “Superstar” Blanton

Coach Blanton is a recent graduate of Gannon University where he stared for the Golden Knights.  The two-time PSAC First Team and All-Atlantic Regional Second-Team Recipient finished his senior year among the top field goal percentages in the nation at 54.2%. He established himself as one of the best to go through the accomplished program after a highly-decorated state and nationwide high school career at South Euclid under Coach Sean O’Toole.

Connor O’Toole

A previous Big Shot Basketball camper, O’Toole has been with Big Shot from the start. Connor concluded his high school career as Gilmour’s all-time leader in assists and 3-point shooting. He is currently a member of the John Carroll Men’s basketball team and serves as both a camp and individual skills instructor for Big Shot Basketball.
